Current obsession and topic of research: Maya Deren, aka Eleanora Derenkowskaia. Filmmaker, dancer, poet, choreographer, photographer, film theorist, cat-lady (obviously). Born in Kiev. Grew up in Syracuse, NY. Spent some time in Haiti. Reading up on her this week and watching her films, many of which are on YouTube.
